In 1992, Todd and Victoria started making candles in their garage that soon became a soaring business. On July 1, 2003, St. Johnsbury Candles, Inc. suffered a fire. The fire was a result of a power outage throughout the town. Once the power was reinstated to the area, it resulted in three powerful surges that overloaded the building circuits igniting multiple fires within the building. Everything was lost, but most importantly, no one was hurt.

Todd, along with good friends and customer donations, started SJ Perfect Scents in August 2004.

Although the business has changed, some things have not. Every candle is hand-poured with a formula developed over a lifetime of experience, and we focus on our customers' needs and guarantee of satisfaction. Our long-lasting, slow-burning, fragrant scents still hold the same superior quality you have been accustomed to since 1992.

We test burn our candles before we put them into production. If it doesn't burn properly, we don't sell it. If there is anything wrong with your candle, please let us know and we will make it right!

Safety Tips

  • Always keep a burning candle within sight
  • Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire
  • Keep burning candles out of reach of children and pets
  • Always extinguish all candles before leaving the house
  • Always read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully
  • Trim wicks to ¼ inch prior to each use unless the instruction tells you to do otherwise
  • Always use an appropriate candle holder and place on a stable, heat-resistant surface
  • Keep burning candles away from drafts
  • Extinguish the flame if it comes too close to the holder or container, typically when 1–2 inches of wax remains for most candles and ½ to ¼ inch for container or jar candle
  • Our votives burn the same as our jarred candles so always burn our votive candles in a snug-fitting votive holder. To receive maximum quality and burn time, do not place in a large holder and do not burn freestanding

Burn with Care!

- Trim your wicks to about ¼” this helps regulate the flame height and reduce smoking and sooting, keeping melt pool clean of foreign objects.
